Encounter:
Read Acts 18:23–19:20 and 1 Corinthians 16:5–9.
How do you see Paul crossing spiritual thresholds in these chapters?
What challenges or “opposition” did he face as he entered new seasons?
How did the Holy Spirit guide and strengthen him along the way?
Life is filled with thresholds — moments when we stand between what has been and what will be.
It might be a change in our job, a relationship, a season of faith, or a new call from God.
Thresholds can be uncomfortable, but they’re also sacred spaces where God shapes us for what’s next.
Throughout Scripture, God’s people often stand at the edge of something new:
In 1 Chronicles 4–8, Israel rebuilds their identity after exile. Each name recorded marks a step toward restoration.
In Acts 18–19, Paul crosses into new territory, from Corinth to Ephesus, and the Gospel explodes in power.
In Ezekiel 33, the prophet is called to be a watchman — standing at the threshold, alerting others to what’s coming.
And Psalm 119 reminds us that at every step, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
Every threshold brings a choice:
Will we cling to what’s comfortable, or will we trust God to lead us forward?
Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 16:9, “A great door for effective work has opened to me, and there are many who oppose me.”
In other words, open doors often come with resistance — but resistance doesn’t mean retreat. It’s often a sign we’re on holy ground.
Crossing thresholds faithfully means walking by the light of God’s Word.
Psalm 119 teaches that Scripture anchors us when we can’t see what’s next.
The wisdom of Proverbs 29:18 echoes this: “Where there is no vision, the people perish.”
Vision, rooted in God’s truth, is what moves us across the threshold into His purposes.
Standing at a threshold can be scary — but it’s also where transformation begins. As we step forward in faith, God goes before us, behind us, and beside us. Every threshold crossed in faith becomes a testimony of His power and grace.
We are also reminded that thresholds aren’t just personal; they’re communal. Churches and families also come to places where God says, “It’s time.” It might be time to forgive, to risk generosity, to serve in a new way, or to reach beyond our walls. God invites us to step through together, trusting that His Spirit meets us on the other side.
I invite you to begin praying for our time together for our Fall Congregational Meeting on November 2nd. It will be a special day of vision and stories shared, baptisms and a celebration potluck. Maybe you have a story to share about the thresholds you have crossed in the last year. Sharing this with others in this Eden family stirs faith and inspires us in following Jesus. We hope you will share it during our fellowship time.
Pray also as we vote on this next year's ministry investment plan (the budget:) and if God is inviting you to "risk generosity." We are crossing a threshold from being receivers of God's abundance to accepting God's invitation to "own" our part in the mission he is giving Eden.
"There is a wide-open door for a great work here...Be on guard, stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong. And do everything with love.
Crossing the Threshold with You,
Pastor T
Reflect:
Ask yourself:
What threshold am I standing at right now? (A decision, a change, a new calling, a season of healing?)
What am I being invited to leave behind as I cross?
What new grace or faith is God calling me to step into?
You may want to read Psalm 119:105 —
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”

Gather:
How can your group or church help one another cross spiritual thresholds together?
What “open doors” might God be setting before your community right now?
